St. Mary Catholic Church

Religious

Construction Type: Exterior Space

Location: Chelsea

In celebration of the Jubilee 2000 St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea desired a new bell tower to support a bell they had acquired.   Also included in the project scope was a Shrine to Mary, Stations of the Cross, Knights of Columbus memorial Pavers, and Shrine to Unborn Children. The bell tower was seen as an architectural counterpoint to the church building.  The Shrine to Mary was incorporated in the base of the bell tower.  Stations of the Cross lead from the church to the bell tower.  Pavers then lead the way to a more private reflective space protected by a curving brick wall with an embossed brick motif depicting Mary with child.
