Silver Maples of Chelsea, an exceptional retirement community, sought to create a unique dining experience for its residents. They envisioned an alternative dining room that departed from the institutional feel, aiming instead to evoke memories of casual restaurant atmospheres from the 1960s. In response, we designed the “Bistro” dining room addition, strategically positioned at the apex of a curving exterior wall.
Preserving the original exterior glazing on the now interior wall was a key element of the design, allowing ample sunlight to flow into the hallway. The addition incorporated numerous windows facing a courtyard, maximizing natural light and providing residents with uninterrupted views of the outside garden and court. This thoughtful approach not only created a distinctive and nostalgic dining space but also prioritized the well-being and enjoyment of the residents within the retirement community.
